Shelby County Foster Parent Association is a non-profit organization that serves approximately 300 children and teens currently, formerly and at risk of experiencing foster care and their caregivers in Shelby County and surrounding areas. The Hangar is SCFPA’s community and resource center much like an airplane hangar, which serves as the hub to both house and facilitate all projects and services provided by the organizations. Our members also work with state officials to change polices relating to children in our state. As our programs are not subsidized by the state or local government, we completely rely on donations received from benevolent community members and businesses.

Our organization is a partnership within the community and a true picture of how much it takes a village. With many different opportunities to get involved with, we reply on people like you to support our programs. Throughout the year we host special events aimed at meeting various needs within the foster care community. Some of our events include and not limited to;

CLOTHING CLOSET | which provides gently used clothing, shoes, jackets and swimsuits to children and teenagers when they enter foster or kinship care.

NEW TO CARE | Along with clothing, each child is provided with a new bag, pajamas, socks, underwear, diapers and wipes, infant formula, toiletries, a pillow, a blanket, a book, and a stuffed animal anytime, day or night.

SOCIAL OFFERINGS | Social opportunities and sporting / special interest equipment is offered through special sponsorships.

SENSORY | For those children with sensory needs, special items are provided to those in care when needed.

BACK TO SCHOOL | sponsorships provide schools supplies, backpacks, personalized water bottles, new shoes, socks and underwear for children and teens in grades 4K through college.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS STOCKING | provides each child and teen with a monogrammed stocking and stocking stuffers at Christmas.

TEEN SPONSORSHIP | includes birthday wishes, prom or homecoming, packing and moving supplies, dorm or apartment setup and aging -out support.

CAKES AND CUPCAKES ACROSS ALABAMA | program coordinates sponsorships for birthday cakes, gifts and celebrates tailored to children’s individual needs.
